Specialized Demo
can you turn a specialized demo 7 into a demo 8?

can you, change the rear shock to an eight-inch?
can you, replace a few parts to achieve the right geometry?

pretty much, i have a demo 7, and i want a demo 8, with the correct geometry
i know that there isnt TOO much of a difference in geometry, but that extra inch does make a difference. i just want to know if changing the rear shock, along with the fork, to 8 inch travel would affect geometry a lot

PS-the only difference i am looking at is the frame geometry. i built the thing up much more than the stock could provide

These are the specs of the Demo 8 which with the exception of the DHX 4.0 on your bike now all you would want to go up to is a DHX 5.0 Fox rear shock http://www.pinkbike.com/product/specialized/Demo-8-Frame/ if you wanted the demo 8 then you should have purchased that bike. there is little to nothing in the way of making the 7 into an 8...it is nearly the exact bike already, why do you need to anyway? you have a top of the line DH bike and the 8 isnt all that much better with the exception of a few components but even so I use a Fox 4.0 and a 5.0 myself and there isnt really all that much difference but about a half inch in stroke and that will not make much difference in what you already have....
Here are the specs of both side by side: http://www.pinkbike.com/product/compare/?items=,492,489 other than the head tube spacing these are exactly alike and the same price. Seriously leave the thing alone go out and get some air you have a great ride!
Edit: as I said before the only other shock is the 5.0 and that will help in travel in the rear but if you wanted an 8 you should have purchased the 8. Changing the fork to a longer travel will make the bike handle terrible on that 7 you have. Specailized put the CORRECT fork on that bike best suited for that frame! DO NOT CHANGE IT or you will void any warranty you may have on the frame. an extra inch of front travel will not make any difference on this bike. You have more travel than most, are you planning on taking more than a 15' jump anytime soon?....if not then you dont need to add another inch to the fork and I dont think the headtube angle could handle it anyway if you did that. you arent changing that much, about 2 degrees on the head tube angle, personally I think that would be too much and a Boxxer fork is gonna cost ya'!
